Conversations: Drawings (2016-Ongoing)
installation
2002-2006
paintings, drawings
In 2016 Dejan Kaludjerović started to develop drawings based on his series the Conversations. They take up particularly emblematic statements uttered by the children, giving them a more perennial existence than the audios and making them available in English as lingua franca. The first series of drawings is based on the interviews Kaludjerović conducted in Azerbaijan. They take up the form of alphabet cubes first developed for the installation in which the conversation was presented (see Alphabet Cubes), using the letters to form sentences. The visual forms anchors the statements within their context of origin in a specific culture. At least in the case of this first development of the interviews into drawing, they also make it more difficult to decipher the sentences. In a time where we are constantly confronted with ready-to-use slogans, the use of drawing thus allows for – and even demands – longer and deeper engagement.
